Share the Vote will allow local community members to aid local non-profit organizations

BURNSVILLE, Minn. (Oct 31, 2012) – Community members in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin will be able to vote for a local charity to receive part of a $20,000 charitable grant as part of an event called “Share the Vote, sponsored by Thrivent Financial.” Share the Vote will allow Thrivent members and non-members alike to help choose how much each participating organization will receive of these charitable funds. 

The voting is all done online and community members can log on to the Thrivent website to cast votes for their favorite nonprofit.

“Thrivent Financial is committed to getting input from local communities to maximize impact,” says Craig Smaagaard, a Thrivent Financial partner in Burnsville. “Share the Vote empowers the local community to come together to choose where they would most like to see the funds distributed.”

Anyone age 16 and older in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin can vote and participants are not limited to Thrivent members.  Voters are also encouraged to share their votes and the opportunity to vote with others in the community through various social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook and email.

The participating groups in this Share the Vote event are:  Widow Might, Maple Grove, MN;  Bridge for Youth & Adults with Disabilities, Hudson, WI;  Central Lutheran School, St. Paul, MN;  Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge, Minneapolis, MN; The Phipps Center for the Arts, Hudson, WI
