CLOSED...total FAIL on HSD....

Now hundreds of parents on their way home from work (which they made it to...) to pick up their kids than can't make it two miles to school....wow hudson...just wow.

This after 2 days off last week, one for "teacher professional development"???? Why can't that be done in the summer? I'm sick and tired of this!! I drove 50 miles into work, it was slow, but I made it, and that was at 5:30 in the morning!!

Because it too slippery out and why endanger innocent children on slippery roads....for crying out loud....all it takes is one accident with a bus full of children. I road on them they were bad and weren't getting better in 2 hours. Honestly, this isn't some conspiracy to make your lives crappy....get over it. Last week (Tues) there was a day they should have gone to school (it was sub zero that day and they called school the previous night), the other two were scheduled days off that should have been accounted for. Move on.

Well said concerned citizen! Is there not enough to worry about with our kids on a daily basis and then to put them in a possibly dangerous and life threatening siguation. I think not, they are someones daughter, son,brother, sister, cousin and so on.

Yes it may have been slightly more dangerous than a normal day, but most of us are thinking of what we went through to get to school. Let's face it we have become 'weather wimps'. Made worse be the talking heads on local weather going on and on about 3 days below zero. Hello this is Minnesota and Wisconsin, it's cold here in the winter. (Just not as cold as it used to be).

Did I miss something?? Were roads closed? It looks to me like some superintendents didn't feel like driving to work today so they called it off claiming it was for the safety of our children. Nice play since most of us had already gotten to work on those same roads.

I am sure it was a risk calculated conclusion. Have you been outside? People are falling just in their driveways. You are so great because you made it to work, and you are so tough because YOU think the school should stay open. Become someone involved in these decisions then. Be involved in your children's lives instead of passing them onto school. Sorry that you all hate your children enough to risk their lives in this weather over you working from home, or *gasp* taking a sick day. Welcome to rural school districts, want the assurance that school won't be cancelled? Move to a major city.

maybe you should look beyond your driveway. I made it to work because it was not that bad out.
Maybe we should quiclky pass a law banning ice....for the children!!!!.....If it saves ONE child from *possibly* slipping on the ice its worth it...[rolleyes]

Everyday a bus can have an accident....but not everyday is that risk increased considerable with ice covered roads. You made it to work fine, congratulations, a ribbon is on its way to you for making it to work on these icy roads. Heck....next time we have a major snowfall or freezing rain, just makes the kids all walk to school, forget the buses....have them cross busy streets and highways...after all we could do it, so should they. Its all part of the HSD conspiracy against the Hudson residents. I wonder if its part of the 9/11 conspiracy, if its all connected? Not that bad out....I slid down my driveway, didn't walk, slid from top to bottom and the street I live on, not an ounce of salt on that road...but I am sure that if my driveway was icy the road just outside my driveway wasn't that bad. Seriously, love your kids a bit more and stop being so cynical about every decision that affects your daily routine as being one that was solely made to make your life miserable.

You may have made it to work but I am sure you were driving the interstate and not country roads. Why would you want children in danger? If they would not have called it off you would have been saying they didn't care. Move on. The country roads were very icy and there were many accidents.

I guess I didn't realize there where still school buses. Seems as though everyone drives tp high school - remember we need the parking. Plus its a traffic jam up there every morning. Hit the middle school at the opening bell and there are traffic lines for miles from Mommy driving Dick and Jane to school to protect them from the boogeyman I guess. Who exactly uses the buses?

mainstreet - I have 3 children, 2 of whom ride the bus. 1 gets driven everyday because of medical issue.

I was out on the streets at 6:30 yesterday morning, driving said child to a Physical Therapy appointment, and the roads were terrifying. I had hoped that the 2 hour late start would have allowed the sun to come out and warm things up, but that didn't happen.

Everyone needs to move on. Life happens and you adjust. Vent and get it done, and move on.

Yesterday the roads were horrible. My oldest rides the bus to her elementary school- I would not have even risked the drive to get her to school. It was not pleasant. Why would anyone want to risk their children's safety just for them to go to school? You chose to have kids- so be a parent. Boo hoo if you had to take off a day of work to watch YOUR OWN KID!!! Be thankful your child is home safe. Be thankful that you don't have to bury them had they had school and their bus crashed. Some parents know the heartache that comes from losing a child. Accidents happen on "normal" days as well- but why risk the hazardous road conditions? I hope to god that some of you don't reproduce. Apparently you can't fix stupid. And in most cases, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I left them home alone with butter knives, toasters, full bathtubs, and the deep fryer to use if they got hungry.

sorry folks- apparently you got the squall over your neighborhood(s) or something, but my driveway was fine the road by me was fine and the main arteries out of town (and then 94) were fine. Musta been localized on everyone but me... :)

One of my friends said her SUV just slid down the driveway yesterday morning at 6:30. No control, it just slid. I left the house at 8:30 am, and yes, my car slid sideways down the road for awhile. Scared me to death. Yes, let's shove our children onto icy sidewalks and roads. Survival of the fittest, I say. If a car loses control and crashes into students waiting for the bus, who cares? Reducing the student population would be ideal so we wouldn't have to spend a dime on infrastructure to expand our schools or even improve them. And yes, send the children out at -15 degrees to wait for the bus. At that temperature, they should freeze up nicely, become hypothermic or worse. Again, survival of the fittest. From some of the comments on this community board, I'd say that some people were brain damaged from exposure to cold as they walked to and from school uphill both ways in a -70 degree blizzard. They fell on the ice, cracked a bone in their head, suffered brain damage, and as a result, are incapable of critical thinking skills as adults. Their children survive from neglect and lack of protection by the skin of their teeth.

Some people that slide down their driveway with their SUV should have bought a smaller vehicle and invested the spare money in decent winter tires! We made it out the driveway (and I live on a small road connected to a secondary road) and to the university in River Falls without any problem. I just wonder why the UoRF wasn't closed? But, on the other hand, we have a smaller vehicle with real winter tires on!
But the real winner here is the bus company, they saved quite a few gallons of diesel fuel and did not have to pay their drivers.
