St. Croix Falls Teacher, Iraq War Vet May Face Harsdorf in November

State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls) may face a Democratic challenger in this November's election.
Dan Olson of Clayton began circulating his nomination papers on Friday and says he is close to gaining the 400 signatures needed to get on the ballot. In fact, Olson said he is shooting for 500 signatures by Wednesday.
Olson, who is a St. Croix Falls High School social studies teacher and Iraq War veteran, said he is seeking office because the area is being "torn apart by partisan politics."
"Our elected officials are chosen to represent their constituents, but I don't feel the people living in the 10th Senate District are being represented by Sheila Harsdorf any longer. They are being represented by ALEC and its ultra-conservative playbook intent on dividing the people of our great state," Olson said. "I want to return our state to a time when we were willing to work and solve problems together. Compromise is not a weakness; it's a strength on which our great state was built."

Sheila is dividing the state? I think he should probably look back to about a year ago and see which party REALLY divided the state. Heck, for that matter, they should look to the feds and see who is dividing the country.

When the top dog of your state explicitly and verbatim says, "We are trying to divide and conquer", I think it is clear which party is trying to divide the state.

Alec, is that all you, Barrett and the rest of the dems have to say? You need to look at your leaders and open your little mind to see who's dividing here. If you say Walker can't say that. Then you better be mad as hell over Obama and the union's dividing of the country!

I signed his petition. We need candidates of all views. We need candidates who actually practice what they preach. Has Sheila ever given back her farm subsidies which is a form of tax payer welfare? I doubt it. I would like to see people run who LIVE what they preach.

Hey, I respect the fact that he served his country. For that my hat is off to him. As far as politics are concerned, he is a teacher , he is a union member, he has no ability to make any decisions beyond what the union tells him.

Using your logic, anyone who has ever received extended unemployment should give back that money once he/she has a job; after all, unemployment is a form of tax payer welfare once the private funds have run out, extended unemployment was a fed give away.
Do you think homeowner mortgage interest deduction is a good thing? Also a form of tax payer welfare. Should that be given back when the mortgage is paid off? After all, there are only 6 developed countries in the world where all or part of this specific personal interest deduction is allowed. (according to Wikipedia)
Farm subsidy payments are a legal, regulated US government program with specific requirements that are also subject to income tax regulation. If you don't like the program, change it (which is happening); otherwise, give thanks to the farmers the next time you shove food in your mouth.

I've gotten a few questions today about whether Olson had succeeding in gathering enough signatures to get on the ballot. Here's what I found out:
According to GAB documents, Olson turned in 709 valid signatures. Sen. Sheila Harsdorf turned in 800. Only 400 were required to get on the ballot.
Hudson pastor Scott Erlenborn never turned in his nomination papers.
