Alice Munro didn't pick up the phone when the Nobel Committee called early Thursday, but shoppers have been picking up her books all day at Chapter2Books in Hudson after the announcement that she'd won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
By mid-afternoon, the store had only one book by Munro left on its shelves, according to owner Sue Roegge.
do sell out of things quickly when they make major news or sadly, pass
away," Roegge wrote on the store's Facebook page in response to a question by Hudson Patch. "We have one paperback copy of her most recent book, Dear Life, left
for now. We sold a few different titles this a.m. and had sold a few
recently (I think because her latest in [paperback] had generated interest). We'll work to get more in stock asap but I would place a money bet that
our wholesaler sold out. It's happened before."
