A crash involving a semi-trailer truck on I-94 west of the Interstate Bridge caused long delays on the interstate freeway Monday night.

Richard Glasgow took dramatic photographs of the incident (click on thumbnails above to see all four photos), which also show another damaged vehicle.

The overturned truck was transporting frozen seafood, KSTP.com reported at 9:44 p.m. The Minnesota Department of Transportation had closed eastbound I-94 at Manning but had reopened the highway by that time, according to the station.

Travelers posted on Twitter about long waits—as well as concern for those involved:
  • "What's more fun than sitting on I-94 for 2 hours because of a semi crash? Nothing." Matty D @mjdarnold, 11:44 p.m.
  • "45 minutes sitting on 94 is not fun! Huge crash semi flipped hope everyone's ok" Matt Kell @Kell_Matt, 11:09 p.m.

Good point. KSTP said traffic was shut at Manning but I think the crash may have been further east. I'm hoping to get more details from the State Patrol this morning.

One, yesterday's I-94 accident is not today's breaking news. Breaking news is timely within an hour or so of the event. Two, Minnesota DOT's Twitter feed on the accident is closer to breaking news. Today, with traffic moving normally in that area, the event qualifies for news print coverage in the weekly paper.

I went thru there last night about 9:40. The big light up sign over 94 just past Woodbury said "accident at river crossing, road closed at Manning, use other routes" We got off at Manning and took the frontage road down to 95 and got back on 94 heading east. If you got stuck in traffic you are one of the geniuses that can't read signs and stayed on 94 despite the warning. You deserve every minute you were stuck in traffic!
