One-day parenting conference hosted at Faith Community Church
On Saturday, Feb. 1, Faith Community Church (FCC) at 777 Carmichael Rd., in Hudson, Wis., is hosting “IMPACT The Next Generation.” This one-day parenting conference is designed to encourage and equip parents, as well as church leaders and teachers, for the discipleship of children and youth. The conference features David Michael, President and Founder of Children Desiring God (Minneapolis, Minn.); Tim Porter, FCC Lead Pastor, Faith Community Church (Hudson, Wis.); Kathi Westlund, author of “Prayer Pathway” (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Josh Mulvihill, Pastor to Children and Families at Grace Church (Edina, Minn.).
The conference will include two morning sessions led by David Michael, President and Founder of Children Desiring God. David has also served as Pastor for Parenting and Family Discipleship at Bethlehem Baptist Church for 17 years. He and his wife, Sally, have two daughters, and three grandchildren.
The first morning session is entitled “A Vision for God-Centered Worship in the Next Generation.” Psalm 78 of the Bible provides the basis for the biblical calling to teach the next generation. By differentiating between “activity orientation” and “vision orientation” in ministry, it is clear that achieving a biblical vision requires intentionality. This session concludes with a detailed look at the teaching we are called to pass on to the next generation.
The second morning session is entitled, “A Vision for Encouraging Faith in the Next Generation.” Teaching requires not only a transfer of knowledge, but to help children and youth make personal application of Scripture in their daily lives. In this session, participants will learn how to encourage and equip parents in their God given role as spiritual shepherds to their children.
In the afternoon, participants may choose from four seminars offered in two breakout sessions. Tim Porter will teach “The Heart of Biblical Teaching.” Tim Porter serves as the Lead Pastor for the Mission of Faith Community Church in Hudson, leading and shepherding individuals and families toward the goal of more and better disciples in order to glorify God. He and his wife, DJ, have three boys. Josh Mulvihill will teach “Preparing Children and Youth for Marriage.” Josh serves at Grace Church of Eden Prairie where he is responsible to shepherd parents and their children into a deeper walk with Christ, as well as lead the children’s and family staff. Josh and his wife, Jen, have four children. Kathi Westlund will teach “Praying Steadfastly: A Call to Parents.” Kathi believes God’s primary tool in teaching her to pray has been twenty-seven years of parenting. Kathi is a homeschooling mom who is also committed to mentoring women. She collects old books, old dishes, and old quotes to enrich daily life. Kathi and her husband, Randy, have five children. David Michael will teach “Vision Oriented Parenting and the Discipleship of Children and Youth.”
IMPACT: The Next Generation will begin at 9 a.m. with a time of worship and will conclude at 3:30 p.m. The $10 registration fee includes all conference sessions, on-site lunch and a conference gift bag. This event is co-sponsored by Faith Community Church and Children Desiring God. For more information and online registration, please visit www.fcchudson.com. Please register by January 26!
