Volunteers Sought to Replant 'Indian Mounds' at Birkmose Park

The replanting effort starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Birkmose Park in Hudson.

Student volunteers are being sought to help replant the "Indian Mounds" at the bluff of Birkmose Park in Hudson next weekend.

The effort starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Birkmose Park.

"Since the White settlement of the Hudson area in 1840, the five mounds—believed by some to date to the Middle Woodland Period (before the arrival of Columbus)—have been subject to erosion and vandalism," said "Buck" Malick, an event organizer. "Planting them with tough, but pretty, native grasses and prairie flowers will better withstand wear and require less maintenance and water."
