What is Killing Hudson's Evergreen Trees?

The DNR suspects the phenomenon may be related to last year's drought and the region's sandy soil.

Evergreen trees all over Hudson are turning orange and brown, and nobody seems to know exactly why.

In a WCCO report (above) Jim and Margaret Woodruff of Hudson said they have planted and cared for several evergreen trees on their property over the past 50 years. Those trees, along with scores of others in St. Croix County, are now dead or dying, and it's a mystery why.

The Wisconsin DNR is sending someone next week to study the phenomenon, and they suspect it may have something to do with last year's drought and the region's sandy soil, according to the WCCO report.
