Aerial Photos Show Unique Perspective on Bridge Progress

Earlier this Spring work commenced on the St. Croix River Crossing project, a regional transportation solution that will connect St. Croix County, Wisconsin with Washington County in Minnesota. When completed in 2016, the new 4-lane bridge over the St. Croix River will replace an aging lift bridge in Stillwater, MN that has served the 2-state area since 1931. Approval for the St. Croix Crossing required Congressional action that was accomplished in February 2012 and signed into law a few weeks later. Discussions about replacing the lift bridge began several decades earlier but picked up momentum in early 2011 when several U.S. Senators and Representatives became champions for the project and agreed on a course of action leading to approval in Washington, D.C.

Special thanks to Mike Demulling, flight instructor at New Richmond Airport, for the aerial photos.
