Bob Smith's Sports Club is Under New Ownership

"We want to make changes over time," Tomaro said. "Eventually the goal is to have a rustic, lodge-themed restaurant and bar with a lot of memorabilia and historic items we can find from Hudson and the surrounding area."

One of downtown Hudson’s longtime establishments, Bob Smith's Sports Club, is under new ownership.

Earlier this month, the Hudson City Council approved a liquor license for Thomas J. Tomaro and Michael J. Tupa, both of Stillwater, doing business as Hudson Grill LLC. The council denied a proposed patio area, because they had yet to see the plans.

Tomaro told the council he is working with the Planning Commission on a patio proposal with the hopes of opening an outdoor seating area next spring.

"We look at it as a historic property with a lot of character," Tomaro said of the downtown building. “We would really like to peel back the layers … and get back what it was years earlier from the current 70s motif or whatever is going on now.”

Renovations will be done over a period of time, he said.

Tamoro said he is not sure on the name of the establishment—keeping it the Sports Club or not—so there may be a name change down the road.

“Welcome to Hudson,” Mayor Alan Burchill said.
