Segway Tours Rolling Into Stillwater, Hudson

All American Segway is introducing two new tours this fall — one around Lake McKusick and Pioneer Park in Stillwater, and another that crosses the St. Croix River from Lakeland into Hudson's Lakefront Park.

Packs of Segways may be seen in the wild at key locations each weekend in the St. Croix Valley for the next couple months to give people a unique way to experience the natural beauty of the St. Croix River Valley as the leaves change colors.

All American Segway, now four years old, is expanding its tour business into Stillwater and Hudson this year. Originally based in Rochester, the company expanded its service into the south metro last year with .

The Hudson Common Council formally approved the tours in its .

Routes

The company's website offers the following descriptions of the new tour routes:

LAKE MCKUSICK TOUR
Address: 804 Laurel Street West, Stillwater, MN 
Travel around Lake McKusick in style while taking in the natural beauty of the area. After going around the lake, you will glide to Pioneer Park for an epic view of the St. Croix River Valley. Experience paved trails, gravel trails, as well as some local street riding. Tour time is approximately 90 minutes.

BORDER CROSSING TOUR
Address: 400 Saint Croix Trail South, Lakeland, MN
Segway along the St. Croix River and cross into Hudson, WI and go into Lakefront Park while experiencing breathtaking views and beautiful fall colors along the way. Learn some of the local history of Hudson, WI including a very well-known club, a famous bank robber, and what Hudson, WI has in common with New York. Tour time is approximately 90 minutes.

Cost

According to the All American Segway website, the Stillwater and Hudson tours require reservations and advanced payment of $60 for Friday tours and $70 for Saturday and Sunday tours. More than 500 tours already have been purchased at half price through a now-closed Groupon deal.

Safety

Ken Smith, American Segway President, said each tour (up to two per day) will be limited to 10 people (nine customers, plus the tour guide), and the Segways will travel no more than 8mph. Tour guides will show participants how the device works and provide helmets for them.

What's a Segway, anyway?

In case you don't know, the Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transportion vehicle that are allowed on both sidewalks and streets, much like electric wheelchairs or scooters for disabled people. They have been around since about 2001.
