Hudson Patch Week in Review: May 29, 2011

This week brought an empty parking lot, an overturned law, a local American with talent, a restaurant refresh and a tornado warning.

Hudson High School student volunteers spent 13 hours overnight in the high school parking lot on Thursday night writing 5,998 names of U.S. service members lost in Afghanistan and Iraq. Students were asked to make the sacrifice of not driving to school on Friday, May 27, as part of the Empty Parking Lot Project.

On Sunday, May 22, the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for a several-county region in the Twin Cities area, which included Hudson. A few hours later, a tornado ripped through North Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Fridley, Forest Lake and other nearby communities. 

The popular downtown Hudson restaurant was closed for a week while workers gutted the space and made completed a major renovation. San Pedro Cafe reopened with a totally new look, including a huge new bar, leather booths and freshened up decor.

Stillwater Mayor Ken Harycki says Sen. Amy Klobuchar's bill is "probably the most significant development in 25 years on this project."

Hudson High School graduate Caleb Hawley was on American Idol earlier this year, and now he's been spotted in a promo for the upcoming season of America's Got Talent.
