Elderly Woman Loses Control, Crashes Into Mama Maria's, Hits Parked Cars

An 82-year-old Hastings woman lost control of her car and crashed through the patio at Mama Maria's, and took out a tree and two parked cars at Central Bank in North Hudson on Friday afternoon.

Gary Lamers, owner of Mama Maria's Italian Restaurant in North Hudson was in cleanup mode Friday afternoon after a car crashed through his patio and destroyed part of a fence.

An 82-year-old Hastings woman lost control of her Ford Fusion while arriving at the restaurant for lunch just after noon on Friday, according to North Hudson Police Chief Mark Richert. The car took out the restaurant's fence, hit the northwest corner of the building, veered across the parking lot, jumped the curb, and struck a tree and two vehicles parked at Central Bank.

Despite damage to the vehicle, neither the driver nor her passenger were injured in the crash, according to Richert.

Note to Granny's kids: For the sake of everyone else on a road or sidewalk that your mother may drive on or near, take her keys away from her and persuade her that her driving days are over. She's lucky the damage she caused was only to property on not to someone's well being.

It may not be her age it could have been a medical condition. There are many ticking time bombs out there driving. Anyone who is epileptic, diabetic, or possibly has a heart condition can be a danger too. I am thankful no one was hurt but it was an accident and they happen even to young people.
