Graffiti Bomb Threat Found at Hudson High School

Hudson School District is working with the Hudson Police Department to provide extra caution after what is considered a low-level threat.

UPDATE (4:23 p.m., Feb. 13, 2012): The Hudson School District posted the following message on its website this afternoon:

HS classes were held as usual today (Feb. 13th) without disruption. Thank you to our staff, administrators and the Hudson Police Department for extra supervision throughout the day. The building was searched after every passing time. An additional graffiti message was found. Immediate action was taken to identify those persons who were in the area at or about the time the message was left. Security cameras are providing evidence that is helpful to the investigation. We believe this to be a prank. However, felony charges and expulsion may still occur.

We have no evidence that a credible threat exists; classes are scheduled as usual for Tuesday. Moving forward, we expect that any additional incidents like this that cause students to miss class time willresult in students having to make up missed hours or days.

ORIGINAL POST (3:33 p.m., Feb. 10, 2012): The is working with the to provide extra caution after graffiti at was interpreted as a bomb threat for Monday, Feb. 13.

The incident is being treated as a low-level threat, but extra precautions are being put into place nonetheless, according to Tracy Habisch-Ahlin, district communications specialist.

"We sent out a message to families about a message that suggested a bomb threat on Monday, Feb. 13, at the high school," Habisch-Ahlin said. "Police are working with the district and administration, and they're following through with their safety and security plan."

After students left today, teachers searched their classrooms and locked them. According to Habisch-Ahlin, the building will be searched again before classes on Monday. Law enforcement officials will be at the school on Monday for added precautions.

"A message of this type is considered by law enforcement to be a very low-level threat, and we just are being extra cautious in letting parents and staff know about it so we can be more vigilant on Monday," Habisch-Ahlin said.

Because of the ongoing investigation, Habisch-Ahlin wouldn't revel the exact message in the graffiti, the location it was written or in which medium is was conveyed.

The district sent the following message to high school families and posted it on its website on Friday afternoon:

A graffiti message suggesting a bomb threat for Monday, February 13, 2012 was found at the High School. While this type of message is considered by law enforcement to be a very low level threat, safety is the district’s number one priority. We are taking action along with the Hudson Police Department to keep students and staff safe. After students left the school building on Friday, teachers searched their classrooms and then locked the room when departing. Law enforcement and district administration will search the building and grounds before school begins again. On Monday, law enforcement and staff will provide increased supervision throughout the day.  HS staff will carry out safety plan procedures in the coming days and weeks to increase security and monitoring of the school. These measures help ensure the building and school environment remain as safe as possible for all who learn and work at HHS.

This incident will continue to be investigated by law enforcement. Please report any information that may be helpful in this investigation to the Hudson Police Department (715.386.4771). Parents and students are asked to contact High School administration if they have additional questions or information. Parents should let their students know that bomb threats are considered a felony level offense and in addition to criminal charges would likely result in expulsion from school.

Parents may choose to keep their student(s) home on Monday and the absence will be excused provided the absence is communicated to the school and a written note with parent signature is given to the office upon the students return to school on Tuesday. We do not want to alarm families unnecessarily but we do want you to be informed and know that actions are being taken to keep HHS students and staff safe and secure.
