Hudson Police Blotter: Skeletal Remains of Carnivore Excavated in Willow River State Park

The following information was supplied by the Hudson Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Remains found: At about 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, Hudson officers were called to aid St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies at Willow River State Park, where skeletal remains had been discovered. The bones were sitting on top of the soil and some were partially covered with soil. There also was a sleeping bag partially covered with soil nearby. The officers believed some of the bones to be human, but were not certain. Officers remained on the scene with the county medical examiner and helped shoot crime scene photos. An excavation took place on Monday, Aug. 22, and Ramsey County forensic pathologists said the remains belonged to a carnivore, most likely a bear. 

Theft: At about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, a man called police to report that his golf clubs had been stolen out of his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in his driveway in the 1600 block of Cronin Circle. The man said the theft occurred sometime overnight between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. He said he clubs were worth $1,500. 

Property damage: At about 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, a man called police to report vandalism and property damage at Konrad Corp. The north wall of the building had been spray-painted. The man estimated it would take $200 to remove the paint.

Property damage: At about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, a man called police to report that a rear window was smashed out of his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway in the 100 block of Stratford Way. He said that nothing appeared to be missing or moved in his vehicle, and he estimated it would cost about $500 to replace the glass.

Theft: At about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, a man called police to report that his kayak had been stolen from his backyard in 900 block of First Street. He said he last saw the kayak at about 8 p.m. on Aug. 15, and he discovered that is was missing at 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 17. The kayak is valued at about $250.

Fraud: At about 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, a woman called police to report that someone had used her business checking account number to purchase something online. The purchase was made for more than $525 on Aug. 15 at Walmart.com.

Property damage: At about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, a woman called police to report that her vehicle, which was parked in her garage in the 1100 block of Grandview Drive, had been keyed. Also, either the two driver side tires had been slashed or someone had let the air out of them. Damage was estimated at $500. Both the woman and her roommate were arrested earlier in the day in a domestic incident.

Theft: At about 7:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, a woman called police to report that some money had been taken from her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the alley behind her house in the 1300 block of Second Street. About $15 in small bills and change was taken. The glove box had been opened and the coin cup was gone. She also said that her garage had been opened.

Theft: At about 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, a woman called police to report that items and cash had been taken from her unlocked vehicle, which was parked overnight on St. Croix Street. About $7 in change was missing along with a cassette-type player worth $10. Her GPS device was not taken.

Disorderly house: At about 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, police responded to a home in the 2200 block of Hanley Road for a noise complaint. When officers arrived, they found several people standing on the balcony of a second-floor apartment. A woman who lives at the apartment told police that music was playing, but the volume had been turned down for about 15 minutes. Because it was her second loud-noise ordinance violation, the womn was cited with disorderly house.

Property damage: At about 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, a woman told police that the door to the apartment building in the 2200 block of Hanley Road had been damaged. Damage was estimated at $500.

Property damage: At about 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, a person reported a stop sign down at Fifth Street and Walnut Street. Police found a total of five stop signs down in the neighborhood.

Theft: At about 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, a woman called police to report that her GPS was stolen from her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in her driveway in the 300 block of 11th Street South. The theft occurred between 2 p.m. on Sunday and 6 a.m. on Monday. The GPS device was valued at $100.

Theft: At about 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, a woman called police to report that at 3 a.m. she heard her garage door open. She said she let her dogs out and subject fled. Her garage door opener, valued at $20, was taken from her unlocked vehicle parked in the 2200 block of Mississippi Avenue.
