Man's Drunken Swim from Police, Ends in an Arrest on the St. Croix River

A 27-year-old Plymouth, Minn. man was arrested for disorderly conduct Saturday night after he allegedly swam away from police officers who were called to Dike Road on a report of a drunken man trying to swim across the St. Croix River.

A drunken Minnesota man reportedly caused quite the scene in the St. Croix River Saturday night, before first responders were able to safely pull him from the water.

Hudson Police Sgt. Glen Hartman told the Hudson Star-Observer that Myles Nelson, 27, of Plymouth, Minn., was with friends boating on the St. Croix River July 13 when he decided to jump in and try to swim across the river. Another boater saw the Nelson swimming, and because be appeared to be extremely intoxicated, called police.

“Water rescue boats from St. Croix County, Hudson Police Department and Washington County were on the scene, but Nelson kept swimming away from them and refused to take hold of a life preserver thrown to him, all the while shouting profanities.”

Nelson eventually calmed down, was pulled into a police boat and arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to the St. Croix County Jail Bookings.

Police were called to the scene at Dike Road about 8:50 p.m.
