Police Recover Car Stolen From Illinois After Gas Drive-off

Police approached the vehicle with weapons drawn and took one 23-year-old Illinois man into custody.

Hudson Police officers, St. Croix County Sheriff's deputies and Wisconsin State Patrolmen took an Illinois man into custody just before noon on Sunday, Feb. 24, after he allegedly drove off from a Woodville gas station without paying for more than $50 of gas. It was discovered that the car he was driving was reported stolen.

Officers pulled over the green Audi into the median near mile post 4 on westbound I-94 and approached with their weapons drawn, attracting much attention from motorists passing by.

Adam J. Sellers, 23, of Lynwood, IL, was taken into custody and charged with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent (a Class H felony) and misdemeanor theft for $54.55 worth of gas he allegedly left without paying for.

The car was reported stolen from the parking lot of an LA Fitness center in Lansing, IL on Feb. 21.

Just after Sellers was taken into custody a crash was reported nearby, which forced the closure of two westbound lanes on I-94 at Exit 3 for nearly a half hour.
