WEATHER ALERT: Snow Headed for Hudson; No Parking on City Streets

Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen wants to remind motorists to not park on city streets before city snowplows clear them from curb to curb.

Forecast show that a lot of snow is on the way. Do you know where you'll park your car?

Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen is advising motorists to keep their vehicles parked off of city streets while plow drivers work to clear streets from curb to curb in order to keep in compliance with Hudscon City Ordinance 235-3 I(1).

"We ended up issuing almost 50 tickets during the snowstorm last week," Jensen said. "We'd hate to have to issue any more because they're between $25 and $50. If it's your third offense we tow your vehicle, and we don't want to have to do that. We'd just as soon get those streets clear so those snow plows can go through."

In all, 176 vehicles were identified by Hudson Public Works employees, but police officers only had time to ticket about 50.

This time, Jensen wants residents to be ready. As soon as the city declares a "snow plowing event" with about 2 inches or more of snow on the ground, the parking restrictions take effect.

According to the National Weather Service, the Hudson area already is under a winter storm watch:

Significant winter storm likely to impact much of the area Tuesday and Wednesday...  .a blizzard watch remains in effect for West Central Minnesota for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. This includes areas along and west of a line from Granite Falls to Staples.  A winter storm watch remains in effect for the rest of Central and South Central Minnesota...including the Twin Cities metropolitan area...as well as for all of West Central Wisconsin...from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.  An area of low pressure over the Southern Rockies...is forecast to trek northeast and intensify over the Central Plains by Tuesday evening...then slide east into Southern Wisconsin by Wednesday evening.  Snow is expected to spread northeast into the area during the day on tuesday...and become heavy at times Tuesday night through Wednesday in Western and Central Minnesota...where snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour are possible. The heaviest snow will fall along and north of a line from Canby through Willmar to Rice Lake. Areas to the south of this line will see snow initially...but then transition to a wintry mix with sleet or freezing rain by Tuesday afternoon and evening.  Storm total snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches are expected in the northwestern watch area by Wednesday evening...with locally higher amounts possible. This combined with strong winds could lead to blizzard conditions for West Central Minnesota.  There is still some uncertainty with the exact precipitation types with this storm system. If the storm tracks farther north...then a greater amount of sleet and/or freezing rain will be possible. Should the storm take a more southern track...then the most significant snow accumulations would shift east and south.

Winter storm watch remains in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon...

  • Timing... A wintry mix of precipitation is expected to develop   Tuesday morning and continue through Wednesday evening. Periods of heavy snow...sleet...and freezing rain are possible Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
  • Main impact... Snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches are possible   Tuesday through Wednesday with amounts in excess of a foot   across Central Minnesota. Sleet and freezing rain is also   possible.
  • Other impacts... Significant disruptions to travel may occur   Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusty winds during this period may   cause significant blowing and drifting snow...which could   exacerbate already poor travel conditions.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...  A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
