Winter Storm Warning Issued for Hudson Area

A winter storm warning will be in effect in Hudson for 24 hours beginning at midnight. Winds are expected to reach 25mph and snowfall is expected to be 4 to 7 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued the following winter storm warning effective for 24 hours beginning at midnight:

.A POWERFUL WINTER STORM CONTINUES TO ORGANIZE ACROSS THE HIGH PLAINS OF THE DAKOTAS AND WILL SHIFT EASTWARD TOWARDS THE UPPER MIDWEST THIS AFTERNOON. TONIGHT A BAND OF HEAVY SNOW WILL FALL FROM WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA THROUGH NORTHERN WISCONSIN...WHICH WILL BE FOLLOWED BY STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS LATER IN THE DAY ON SUNDAY.

A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM MADISON MINNESOTA TO THE TWIN CITIES...TO LADYSMITH WISCONSIN...FROM SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING. SNOW WILL DEVELOP OVER FAR WESTERN MINNESOTA THIS AFTERNOON...SPREAD ACROSS EASTERN MINNESOTA LATER THIS AFTERNOON ...AND FINALLY MOVE INTO WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN BY LATER THIS EVENING. SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES...WITH TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS RANGING FROM 5 TO 8 INCHES. THE HIGHEST TOTALS WILL BE ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM ALEXANDRIA...TO BUFFALO TO ANOKA...TO CHETEK.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR A PORTION OF SOUTHERN MINNESOTA INTO WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN...FROM GRANITE FALLS AND REDWOOD FALLS TO RED WING...THEN TO EAU CLAIRE AND CHIPPEWA FALLS WISCONSIN. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY AREA WILL RANGE FROM 3 TO 5 INCHES.

CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING THAT NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN PORTIONS OF WESTERN AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA....ESPECIALLY ALONG THE MINNESOTA RIVER VALLEY. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP BEHIND THE SYSTEM. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF 25 TO 30 MPH...WITH GUSTS NEAR 40 MPH MAY PRODUCE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND PORTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA BY MID SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIMING...SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL SPREAD OVER THE AREA EARLY SATURDAY EVENING AND LAST THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* MAIN IMPACT...HEAVY SNOW WITH TOTALS OF 4 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* OTHER IMPACTS...AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL DEVELOP SUNDAY AFTERNOON AS NORTHWEST WINDS INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH AND GUSTS APPROACHING 35 MPH. THE BLOWING SNOW WILL SUBSIDE EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AS WINDS BEGIN TO WEAKEN.
