City Street Repair Projects Begin Monday; How Will They Affect You?

Major roadwork will begin Monday in the City of Hudson. Grandview Drive, Carmichael Road and River Street areas will be affected.

Work is set to begin on Monday for three street improvement projects in the City of Hudson. All three have the potential to cause headaches for motorists and homeowners.

The City of Hudson reported the following information in a news release:

The city of Hudson will be starting the 2012 street improvement projects the week of August 20, 2012.  The successful bidder was Monarch Paving from Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.  The contract consists of three construction areas:

  • Carmichael Road north of Vine Street/CTH UU intersection to north of the business mall
  • Grandview Drive from Vine Street to just north of Ash Drive
  • Alley between Sixth and Seventh Streets north of River Street

The Carmichael Road project involves removing the blacktop and replacing with blacktop.  It may be possible to make some revision to the roadway by the north entrance to the business mall, but this will not be changed completely until a total street reconstruction project is done.  The road will remain open to traffic during most of the mill and overlay project.  There will be some delays when there will be only one lane open.  There will be flagmen directing traffic at these times.  The CTH UU entrance to the business mall is restricted due to the construction of the Central Bank facility.

The Grandview Drive area includes removing the curb/gutter, aprons and blacktop.  The water utility will be checking valves and hydrants after removal to do some upgrade work on those items.  Curb/gutter, aprons and blacktop will then be put back.  Access will remain open for residents to get to their homes as much as possible during construction, but they will not be able to get into their driveways for 7-10 days when new concrete is poured.  They will not be able to drive on the street for at least a day when the blacktop is put down.  Mailboxes will be set up at a temporary location, and a suggested detour route has been established.

The alley project includes removing blacktop, grading work and replacing the blacktop.  Access will be limited during construction with parking available on Sixth, Seventh or River Streets.  Refuse and recycling containers will be put on the north side of River Street on Mondays for pickup.

Project updates will be posted on the city’s website (www.ci.hudson.wi.us).  If there are any questions, please contact the public works department at (715) 386-4767, ext 113 or 114.
