Council to Consider Removal of Vine Street Stop Signs at Fourth Street

The drive into historic downtown Hudson on Vine Street may soon be a little more smooth.

The Public Safety Committee on Thursday, July 12, voted to recommend the removal of stop signs on Vine Street at Fourth Street. The issue will now be brought to the City of Hudson Common Council for consideration.

Public Safety Committee Chairperson and District 2 Alderperson Mary Yacoub said that since the is no longer on Fourth Street it may be redundant for traffic to stop at Fourth Street, Third Street and perhaps at the traffic light on Second Street.

Committee members discussed the fact that the intersection is used by children on their way to and from , and , but those children could instead use the Third Street crossing just one block west.

Chief Marty Jensen told the committee that the intersection has been a quite safe one with only eight accidents in the past 10 years—mostly rear-end collisions.

Jensen also recommended the city place enhanced signage for Fourth Street traffic so those motorists realize a change has taken place and that Vine Street cross traffic will not stop.
