Hudson Election Volunteers Report High Turnout for Recall Race

Thousands of Hudsonites turned out in first hours of voting Tuesday with the after-work rush still to come.

In-person voting began at 7 a.m. Tuesday and election inspectors at five polling places in Hudson have been reporting steady, strong turnout throughout the day.

JoAnn Wert, chief election inspector for the , said that 2,325 people had voted at Hudson Town Hall, one of the busiest polling places in the region, by just 3:10 p.m. Wert said she expected a much larger turnout between 5 and 8 p.m.

Despite the high volume of voters, volunteers said that most voters were in and out within three minutes. The longest anyone had to wait was 10 minutes right when the polls opened, according to one poll worker.

At the , Deane "Skip" Jewett, a 16-year election inspector, reported that 1,007 people had voted there by 3 p.m. Similar high turnout numbers were reported at two other polling locations. The reported 1,162 voters by 3:35 p.m. 

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is facing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) and  (I) in the recall election. Also, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (R) is facing  (D).
