Hudson Golf Club Owner Withdraws Offer to Donate Land to School District

Superintendent says, "By withdrawing his original proposal, Mr. Hanson allows the community to refocus consideration of the St. Croix Meadows Dog Track for a secondary school solution."

The sent the following press release to Hudson Patch on Tuesday afternoon:

Late Monday, the Hudson School District received written notification that Chris Hanson,  owner, that he was withdrawing his proposed offer to donate 65 acres of the current Hudson Golf Course to the school district. Mr. Hanson’s offer was intended to meet the district’s secondary space for learning needs. was presented to the Board of Education on Dec. 13, 2011. This evaluation indicated the proposed donation would only provide between 40 to 45 usable acres for a secondary school. Between 20-25 acres of the proposed golf course property would not be usable due to an environmental corridor that could not be disturbed and protected wetlands. The Board of Education had already established that a large secondary school with a capacity up to 2,500 students would require a minimum of 65 usable acres based on industry standards.

Regarding Mr. Hanson’s withdrawal of his proposed land donation for a secondary school, Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten said, "The district appreciates Mr. Hanson’s intent to support a solution to secondary space for learning needs. We also appreciate Mr. Hanson’s understanding of the limitations of the site for a secondary school. By withdrawing his original proposal, Mr. Hanson allows the community to refocus consideration of the St. Croix Meadows Dog Track for a secondary school solution."

Additional infrastructure supports the site, such as road way access and public water and sewer to the existing building. A full report on the detail and estimated value of this infrastructure is scheduled for the Board of Education’s regular meetingon Jan. 10, 2012. Additional information about the April 3 referendum is available on the district’s website.
