'I Guess If Nobody Else Will ...': New Library Board Leaders Not Eager Beavers

The Hudson Area Joint Library Board lost one president who'd had it with flat budgets and gained a new one who didn't seem to relish the opportunity, according to the Hudson Star Observer.

After the Hudson Area Joint Library Board president bowed out, the office fell to the only board member who would accept it, according to the Hudson Star Observer:

"'I guess if nobody else will do this, somebody has got to do it,' [Rich] O'Connor said after Dave Ostby nominated him for the position. ...

"He returned the favor to Ostby, a town of Hudson representative, by nominating him for vice president. Ostby was elected to that position without any opposing votes, too."

The discussion begins at 1 hour 3 minutes into the meeting in the video above.

Former board president Barbara Peterson told the newspaper she had become frustrated with stagnant budgets: "Until those who are in civic leadership value the library and believe it is a place for investment, I don't see the situation changing."
