Local Republican Party Chair in Trouble Over Ballot Photo on Facebook

When St. Croix County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Garza posted a photo of his completed ballot on Facebook, he unknowingly broke an obscure law.

St. Croix County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Garza has egg on his face after posting to Facebook a photo of his completed absentee ballot. When he did so, he unknowingly broke a state law that prohibits the practice.

Garza declined to comment to Patch about the incident, but he wasn't the only one to get tripped but the by law. Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate did the same thing on his Facebook page. Both Garza and Tate have agreed to remove the photos from Facebook.

The law, which the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board says has never been prosecuted, is intended to keep people from selling their votes and using the photos as verification for payment.
