Walker Critic Receives Death Threat
Also in the news, Sen. Herb Kohl is named fifth richest member of Congress and elected leaders work to move forward the St. Croix River Crossing project.
A blogger who gained national attention for a critical letter she wrote to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker received a death threat against her and her family.
In September, Brian Williams of NBC read to Walker a letter that Heather DuBois Bourenane wrote, which criticized Walker’s budget cuts to public schools and referred to him as "Scott 'Teachers are Thugs' Walker."
DuBois Bourenane, a Sun Prairie teacher, received a phone call at 4 a.m. on Nov. 17 from a man who wouldn’t identify himself. The man told her that she had "attracted the attention of some very bad people," she wrote on her blog.
Rem Brandt, a spokesman for the Sun Prairie police, told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Bourenane had made a complaint and it was being investigated.
On her blog, DuBois Bourenane wrote that Walker was responsible for the "firestorm of irresponsibility and disrespect that has led directly to this point."
"Scott Walker condones threats and intimidation through his silence," she wrote.
Wisconsin’s political climate has led to multiple death threats for Walker and the cost of protection for state leadership has doubled since Walker gained office.
DuBois Bourenane said she would continue her political activism even though she was concerned by the threats.
"There was no doubt in my mind that he was making a physical threat to me and my family," she told the Journal-Sentinel.
