VIDEO: Tom Barrett Delivers Stump Speech at Keys Cafe in Hudson

More than 150 people crowded Keys Cafe Wednesday in Hudson to hear Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett deliver his campaign speech.

More than 150 people crowded  Wednesday in Hudson to hear Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett deliver his campaign speech. Barrett is the Democratic gubernatorial candidate facing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in a recall election on June 5.

Afterward, Barrett met with members of the Twin Cities-area media. He used the opportunity to attack Walker on jobs, education cuts, campaign fundraising and a lack of leadership

Barrett was joined by and at the event. He has similar events planned today for Menomonie, Alma, Mondovi and Black River Falls.

Get ready for another loss Barrett.

I had to remove a misleading comment about the election date. Remember folks, our terms of use have a clause that says, "Don’t try to trick people."
Jim Bob May 23, 2012 at 03:37 pm
Gee Mike, where is your sense of humor? I wasn't trying to trick Chad. I was testing his credibility to see if he was actually paying attention.
If you remove every misleading comment, you'll have a full time job of comment monitoring.
Micheal Foley (Editor) May 23, 2012 at 03:41 pm
It's not about just you and Chad. It's about everyone who reads that comment.
Chadwick May 23, 2012 at 03:55 pm
It's a good thing they deleted it because your bus loads of Illinois voters might have gotten the wrong date and Barrett would lose by 10% instead of just 5%.
Steve ® May 23, 2012 at 03:55 pm
But just here, it's ok elsewhere on patch
Micheal Foley (Editor) May 23, 2012 at 04:01 pm
I police the comments on my posts. If there's tricks being played in the comments of other posts, I suggest you "flag as inappropriate" or email the writer.
CowDung May 23, 2012 at 04:24 pm
Is there ever going to be a system where we can flag certain blog articles as 'inappropriate'?
Greg May 23, 2012 at 04:29 pm
OK, I watched the video, well I fast forwarded a lot, but I got the message.
Barrett is not Walker, yep got that. Barrett does not like Walker, yep got that. Walker has done everything wrong, got that too. Walker is bad, OK what else? Walker is bad, yeah, yeah, yeah.... But what I didn't hear, and yet to hear anywhere, is what is Barrett going to do? What are his plans for Wisconsin? It's called a platform, you need one in an election. Put-up or shut-up Barrett, your lips keep moving but you don't say anything.
Steve ® May 23, 2012 at 05:21 pm
I linked you to it, which you deleted. If you believe in your T&S so much do your job as a moderator, I am personally not stupid enough to vote on June 6th. Or flag that post I linked you to yourself.
Dorothy May 23, 2012 at 05:22 pm
Yes, Greg, BARRETT has NO PLANS!!!!!
YES, HE SHOULD Put-up and Shut-up because his lips are always moving but saying NOTHING!!! Agree Greg! Dorothy
Eagle May 23, 2012 at 05:25 pm
Vote Barrett because, Walker gives away public money and will destroy drinking water in the state. Many more reasons to be found on 2nd Ave in Hudson. Are people really that dumb to think anyone would destroy drinking water and throw grandma over a cliff. Get real...VOTE WALKER, then have the recall people send in a check to pay for the full election cost.
Jim Bob May 23, 2012 at 05:44 pm
Mike, would this qualify as a "misleading comment?"
Information provided to me by Senator Harsdorf showed that there were approximately 20 cases of voter fruad being investigated. None of them had to do with "bus loads of Illlinois voters." The cases dealt mostly with felons who voted and a couple of people who voted early and then voted at the polls.
Micheal Foley (Editor) May 23, 2012 at 06:11 pm
Just don't tell people to vote on the wrong day, that's all.
Jim Bob May 23, 2012 at 07:31 pm
Greg, you listed the things Barrett said and then you say he should "put-up or shut-up." Apparently your hearing old works when its what you want to hear.
The election isn't about Barrett's policies v. Walker's policies. The election is about Barrett not being Walker. That is the platforrm. Castrating collective bargaining for public unions wasn't part of Walker's 2010 campaign platform. Obviously, it was part of his agenda. Where is the state law that says you have to have a platform to run for gov?
Jim Bob May 23, 2012 at 07:32 pm
They don't call Paul Ryan the "zoombie-eyed granny starver" for nothing.
Hudsonmom May 23, 2012 at 07:40 pm
Barrett also hates puppies :-)
(this is legit...found an article on internet wwhere he ddoes actuaally not like dogs)
Greg May 23, 2012 at 07:55 pm
Jim Bo, No state law, just pointing out that he does not have any plans for our state and he wants to be Governor. Obama started the "Not" trend and I see it as cheap politics. It is called "Running for" a position for a reason, hence the need for a platform.
Walkers 2010 platform included balancing the budget and he made clear that would involve public sector employee compensation, sorry you missed it.
Greg May 23, 2012 at 08:02 pm
Paul Ryan has starved a granny? This was approved?

Micheal:
I ask again, is there ever going to be a system where we can flag certain blog articles as 'inappropriate'? We currently have the ability to do this for the comments, but not for the blog articles themselves. I think that this might be a useful feature to have.
Micheal Foley (Editor) May 23, 2012 at 08:25 pm
Feel free to make a suggestion for a new feature at http://support.patch.com/anonymous_requests/new.
KTinWI May 23, 2012 at 08:50 pm
Yeah, Greg, we "missed it" 'cuz it never happened.

I suppose Barrett put puppies on top of his car and followed Romney home on vacation...
Jim Bob May 24, 2012 at 03:16 am
Greg, you probably need to brush up on the "not" approach to campaigns. I believe Reagan ran as not Jimmy Carter who ran as not a Washington insider. Nixon was not a crook. Romney is not Obama. Obama was not Bush. The not approach is not new.
Why do you have to run for a reason? Issac Weix has run in two recall elections as a place holder. In interviews, he said he was not a candidate. I believe Barrett has a legitimate platform and this basically is he is not Walker and not a Republican. Whether or not Barrett's platform is successful will be decided in the June 5 recall election. Like it or not...
Keith Best May 24, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Barrett attacks Walker on education?
Areas that embraced ACT 10 were not attacked. Only the ones that extended union contracts. Recently, Waukesha School Board Superintendent Todd Gray said, "We're in a very good place, with no expected layoffs nor any expected program reductions." This was after erasing a $9.3 million deficit. This is happening all over Wisconsin with over $1 Billion Dollars saved. That's why you should vote Walker/ Kleefisch June 5th. www.reforms.wi.gov Barrett will join Falk as a 3-time loser for governor.
Greg May 24, 2012 at 02:07 pm
I think you are not getting it. Yes, others have said that they are "not", but not as their primary platform. Obama had "not Bush" and "hope and change", a non-quantifiable slogan. I watched the video and based my comments on it.
Some say that Hoover had a slogan "a chicken in every pot and a car in every backyard", maybe Barrett could run on "a trolley on every block". Let's hear it Hudson, do you want to pay for trolleys? Or for operating costs of a train from Milwaukee to Madison? These examples could be used in Governor Walker's next speech, when he rants that he is "Not Barrett". You stated "I believe Barrett has a legitimate platform and this basically is he is not Walker and not a Republican", and I am OK with that, it really confirms my original post. I will never vote for any candidate with that lack of depth, but as you stated, he's your choice and we will see on June 5th. Just a note, "I'm not a crook" was actually not part of Nixon's Campaign.
Jim Bob May 24, 2012 at 03:32 pm
Greg, of course I don't want to pay for trolleys in Milwaukee. My guess is that people in Milwaukee don't want to pay for state parks by Hudson or outhouse on the St. Croix River. They also probably don't want to pay for a Stillwater bridge.
The political power is in the the SE corner of the state and that drives much of the tax dollar spending issues. It's long been a fact, for every dollar in state paid by people in the north half of the state, less than a dollar in services, etc. is returned. In the southern half, it's more than a dollar. That's how our system works. The rail link between Milwaukee and Madison made sense to me. The hi-speed rail link between Madison and the Twin Cities din't make sense to me. Evidently, I look at the tax-and-spend picture differently than you. To be honest, I don't see large jumps in my annual tax bills. My property taxes have went up and down or the recent years. I actually didn't state that Barrett was my choice. I provided my opinion of what his platform is. Whether I vote for him will be determined on June 5.
Jim Bob May 24, 2012 at 03:37 pm
Keith, you say Walker has erased a $9.3 billion deficit. You should provide some proof of this. According to Walker, "We wiped out a $3.6 billion deficit without raising taxes."
You appear to be providing misleading information. Even Walker's claim is challenged: http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2012/jan/29/scott-walker/gov-scott-walker-says-he-eliminated-wisconsins-36-/
Greg May 24, 2012 at 04:31 pm
Now this could be used as a platform:

Good idea, George. The population of the United States in 1789, was less than 4,000,000 people whoRead More lived in a narrow strip of land along the Atlantic Seaboard. Today the United States is a Continental sized country plus Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. It has a population of around 315,000,000 people, which is more than 80 times that population. The US has a defense budget of around $1,000,000,000,000 annually including the NASA, CIA, etc. So, of course we should run it like the Founders did in 1789. So, I suggest we get rid of all of our highways, airports, the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard as they didn't have any of these things. All of the Cell towers should come down, cable TV networks dismantled and the Internet shut down. Since we won't have highways any longer, all of our cars should be melted down. The ideas of the 18th Century were fine for the 18th Century; however they don't work so very swell in the 21st Century. Welcome to it.
George June 13, 2013 at 07:52 am
Thats what I said? I don't think so but I guess you are the genius. Do you think we can't cutRead More wasteful spending without killing the monster. Citizens are to monitor and Limit Government not the other way around. You got some good training, hope you are paid well enough to pay more in taxes.
Steve ® June 14, 2013 at 09:29 am
Liberals are such idiots. Captain like his ilk completely ignore the free crap and wastefulRead More spending that goes to their voting base. Phones, food, housing, clothing, smokes, drugs, education, disability. They like to bring up the obvious spending, protection, and what we as drivers pay into, highways.
