Want to Run for Office? Paperwork Due on Jan. 3
Now is the time to act if you're interested in running for office in the city, town, village, school district or county. Most deadlines to file for candidacy are Jan. 3, 2012.
April 3 is still more than 120 days away, but it's already time to start thinking about the local elections that will happen that day. Any primaries for those elections will take place on Feb. 21. In order to get on the ballot for those elections, individuals must file with the proper authority by Jan. 3.
In most cases, candidates must gather a minimum number of signatures on their nomination papers. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, is the first day those papers can be circulated.
Hudson municipalities will have a variety of ballot items on the April 3 ballot, including a presidential primary preference, a possible school district referendum, school board candidates, county board candidates and a smattering of local board member candidates. Keep in mind, there's no guarantee that incumbents will run again, and in many cases incumbents have been redistricted out of their seats.
