Wisconsin State Assembly Votes to Remove Bonding Requirement for New Stillwater Bridge Project

The Wisconsin State Assembly voted 71-26 to remove the federal requirement to provide bonding authority for the new St. Croix River Crossing project. The bill awaits Gov. Scott Walker's signature.

A bill to remove the federal requirement to provide bonding authority for the new Stillwater bridge project passed the Wisconsin State Assembly on Thursday with a 71-26 vote.

The bill was authored by Wisconsin state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-District 10). It has already been approved by the Wisconsin State Senate, and it awaits final approval from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Rep. Dean Knudson (R-District 30), former Hudson mayor, voted in support of Harsdorf's bill.

"On the state level we have taken the process as far as possible and now stand closer than ever to finally breaking ground on a new Stillwater Bridge," Knudson said. "Representatives from across the state recognized the need to replace the old bridge and voted in support of our bill.”
