Construction of Trinity Academy's $1.3 Million Expansion to Start Late-Spring

The $1.3 million dollar expansion and renovation will add more than 12,000 square feet to the building, including five classrooms, a new science lab and art room, and space for private music lessons.

Trinity Academy expects to begin construction this spring on an expansion that will add a second story to its school for the 2013-14 school year.

“Our enrollment has doubled over the last five years,” Principal Alison Johnson said. “Now, we need more room to meet the demand we’re seeing for Christian education here in the St. Croix River Valley.”

The $1.3 million dollar expansion and renovation will add more than 12,000 square feet to the building, including five classrooms, a new science lab / art room, new special education room, additional bathrooms and space for private music lessons for kids in pre-school through eighth grade, Johnson said.

The first floor of the school will also be renovated to include a new library and media center and a new school office. The pre-school will be reconfigured to an early-childhood wing of the building.

The project also includes a new entrance to the school on 5th Street, a new security system, expanded parking and a drive through drop-off area.

“Four years ago, Trinity Academy added middle-school grades and we quickly ran out of space,” Johnson said. “There are many families in the Hudson area that are looking for another option for middle-school—this expansion will allow us to serve them.”

The expansion will also benefit several of Trinity Lutheran Church’s ministries, including a large, new dedicated space for its Youth Ministry that regularly has up to 150 teens for Wednesday night confirmation and worship.

Derrick Building Solutions, LLC is the general contractor for the project, and Architectural Network, Inc. is the architect.

The project is currently in the permitting phase, Johnson said, with the intention of construction beginning late this spring.

To fund the project, Trinity Lutheran Church conducted a capital-funding campaign in Fall 2012 for the expansion project that raised more than $1.4 million in pledged commitments.
