Hudson High School Alum Tony Mayer Selected as Student Services Director

Hudson Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten next week will recommend the Board of Education approve the appointment of Anthony (Tony) Mayer as the new Student Services Director.

Mayer is a graduate of the Hudson High School Class of 1992. He will replace Cory McIntyre, who is leaving the district for a position with the Maplewood-Oakdale-North St. Paul School District.

For the last five years, Mayer has served as a special education administrator in the White Bear Lake Area School District. In this role, he has experience in special education program design, implementation, and evaluation. Prior to his work in White Bear Lake, he served as a school psychologist in Stillwater, Forest Lake and Anoka-Hennepin school districts.

Mayer’s selection came as a result of a hiring process that involved 16 district employees, according to the Hudson School District. Through the interview process, Mayer was identified as "a collaborative problem solver, an insightful leader, an intelligent learner, a clear communicator and a listener who values all perspectives."

According to a news release from the Hudson School District:

Mayer’s colleagues and supervisors spoke highly of his skills, talents, and contributions to White Bear Lake and made the following comments:

  • “He’s good at recognizing people’s strengths and putting them in a place where they can shine.”
  • “He brings everyone’s perspectives together.”
  • “He goes above and beyond.”
  • “He has a good balance between the technical and the human side of the work.”
  • “He’s a catch for a district. He’s going to be a star.”

Regarding his employment in his home town, Mayer stated:

“As a long time community member and graduate of Hudson High School, I am thrilled to be joining the District. During high school the staff at Hudson High School helped me identify my strengths, challenged me as a learner, and genuinely cared about me. Today, these qualities continue to define Hudson School District staff, and have led to incredible student growth. It is an honor to be joining the team, and serving the students of our community.”
Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten commented this to Board of Education members:

“We are fortunate to find, right in our own backyard, such an outstanding candidate with Tony’s leadership experience, abilities, and values who is already committed to the district.”
Pending the Board’s approval, Mayer will begin his service in the Hudson School District on July 1. He will have a few days to overlap with outgoing Director Cory McIntyre, and a leadership transition plan is in development.
