Hudson High School Principal Laura Love will resign at the end of this school year, according to this news release posted on the high school’s website Monday afternoon.

To confirm, Hudson Patch asked the district’s Community Services Coordinator Tracy Habisch-Ahlin:”Is this an April Fools’ joke?”

“Not an April Fools,” she replied, “wish it were.”

Love said the two things she is most proud of while working for the Hudson School District are:

  1. Working to support students in all sorts of activities by getting to know them and by getting to as many different activities as possible, and
  2. Promoting staff leadership and collaboration that will carry the high school forward amidst the challenges public education is working to meet.

As for Love's hopes for this district as she moves forward with her career:

"My hopes for this district are that the hard work done by so many is recognized, no matter the role the staff member plays. Many staff members in the Hudson School District are working diligently to provide an outstanding education for the youth of this community. While it's cliche to say so, it takes the whole village (working together) to raise a child."

Below is the district’s news release:

"Love was recruited by and accepted a new administrative position with the Middleton-Cross Plains School District. The job offered by Middleton-Cross Plains aligns with Ms. Love’s personal and professional goals and interests. She will be supporting secondary principals and teachers in addressing state-wide initiatives of Educator Effectiveness, implementation of Common Core Standards, the Next Generation Assessments, Response to Intervention and Understanding by Design; building on some of the best practices for student learning that she was a part of in Hudson.

In a letter to High School parents, Ms. Love stated, “It is important for you to know that HSD 2025 is a tremendous vision and one I believe excites educational leaders. I feel privileged to have worked with and learned from the leadership of Ms. Bowen-Eggebraaten and other district administrators. The teachers and the administrative team I have worked with at Hudson High School have been tremendous. In addition, High School Learning for the Future (HSLF) is inspiring to the leaders in the building – teacher leaders, administrators, and other staff leaders. Hudson High School is already a very good school, and HSLF, with staff, parent, and community support will make it a great school!”

While the job offer from Middleton-Cross Plains was Ms. Love’s primary reason for resigning, she did point out that continuous and unjust public criticism of the district and its administration takes a personal toll. It is Ms. Love’s hope that the Hudson community will step forward with more vocal and public support for the incredible work being accomplished in the district to improve student learning.

In response to Ms. Loves’ resignation, Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten stated, “Ms. Love’s departure is a significant loss for Hudson High School. Her leadership over three years has contributed to more students challenging themselves at higher levels and the expansion of student engagement, service, and leadership opportunities. Through collaboration with staff leaders, she has advanced High School Learning for the Future initiatives and SMART Goals that better support student success both in high school and beyond graduation. Middleton-Cross Plains is extremely fortunate to have Ms. Love join their district office administrative team.”

District administration has begun discussions about selecting a new principal. As part of the new leadership transition, Systems Improvement Director Dave Grambow will be at the High School part-time supporting administration and staff."
