Hudson School Board Approves Fee Hikes for Athletics and Activities

The individual athletic fee will increase from $40 to $75—$200 for hockey. The family fee maximum will double from $150 to $300.

At its regular monthly meeting held at River Crest Elementary School on Tuesday, May 10, the Hudson School District Board of Education approved increases in district facility fees, as well as athletic and activity fees.

Director of Financial Services Tim Erickson stated that "the biggest change is we've increased fees across the board."

In the high school, the individual athletic fee will increase from $40 to $75 and $200 for hockey. The family fee maximum will increase from $150 to $300. Also, the high school forensic team will now have a fee of $40, there was no prior fee.

Erickson also noted that "hockey comes with a higher cost, so that was the reason to apply a higher cost."

In the middle school, the individual athletic fee will now be $30 and the quiz bowl and debate team fee will be $40, there were no fees for these activities before.

Erickson also commented that community and nonprofit groups using the facilities will only be charged an "energy recovery fee," which only applies to use of a gymnasium or of the pool at Hudson Middle School.

Four separate categories were created for determining facility use fees. Each category varied in fees.

The first consisted of community, nonprofit groups that benefited the district. The second group is for community, nonprofit or religious groups. The third group is local for-profit groups, and the fourth category are out-of-district or non-resident groups, which have the highest fees.

Vice President of the Board of Education Tom Holland noted that "the facilities and grounds committee is recommending we support this change."
