Hudson School District Adds Half Day to End of Year

Hudson High School and Middle School students will have to attend school on the morning of June 10 to make up for school closings and late starts during the 2010-2011 school year. Elementary students will not be affected.

One more day has been added to the school year for and . Students will have to attend school on the morning of June 10 to make up for school closings and late starts during the 2010-2011 school year. 

The following message was posted on the website on the afternoon of Friday, April 8: 

"As a result of the Inclement Weather School Closing on March 23, 2011, the High School and Middle School have additional make-up time scheduled on Friday, June 10th. Both High School and Middle School students will begin the day at their regular 7:30 a.m. start time. Middle School students will end the day at 10:45 a.m. and High School students will end the day at 11:00 a.m. No lunch will be served. There will be no school for elementary students on Friday, June 10th.

Make-up time for school closings prior to March 23, 2011 have been taken care of by canceling the April 20th and May 11th School Late Starts. As an additional reminder, there is NO SCHOOL scheduled on Friday, April 22, 2011."

On March 17, the district in an attempt to make up enough instruction hours to avoid adding a day of school at the end of the year. The forced the district to find another solution.

Without a make-up day, the schools are in danger of not meeting the required number of instruction hours set by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website, the required number of hours is 437 for half-day kindergarten, 1,050 for full-day kindergarten through sixth grade and 1,137 for seventh grade through high school.
