Newton Field Concession Stand Feeds Hudson Football Fanatics

Support Hudson athletes, scholars and businesses by patronizing the concession stand.

It’s Raider football season and once again the concession stands are packed.

This year Gwen Gierke and Lesa Koski are in charge of the fundraising concession booths at home games throughout the season. The eats feature some of the edible staples around town.

RJ’s Meats provides meat for hamburgers, hotdogs and bratwursts and Dough Boys brings the pizza.

"These companies are such great supporters of the schools and athletic department so it’s important to serve their products," Gierke said.

One of the featured foods at the games is a meal deal with a hot dog, burger or brat along with a bag of chips and a drink.

"The meal deals are popular," Gierke said.

But that’s not the only food available. Typical concession stand food is also for sale at the games.

Gierke listed a wide variety of candy, including M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers Bars, Starbursts, Ring Pops and Kit Kat Bars.

Throughout the game freshly popped popcorn is served.

Sunflower seeds and chips are available.

Beverages range from hot cider to coffee to Coke products.

"Just your average concession stand food," Gierke said. "Everyone has their favorites."

Knowing the Sept. 16 game is homecoming Gierke and her helpers doubled the inventory in anticipation of the large crowd.

"We’re expecting a lot of extra people to be there and we want to be prepared – it’s a big game," she said.

Unlike some other eateries all the food is served by volunteers. Parents of athletes sign up to serve the food during the home games.

"Without the help of the volunteers it would be impossible," Gierke said.

There is no money to be made at the concession stand for anyone’s profit – all the money at the main stand goes back to the school and the football program. This year, the goal is to raise $6,000 to give back to the program.

The other stands are staffed by other volunteers. On the visitor’s side, the chairwoman explained, a youth group serves the food. The money earned there goes to that group.
