When Talk Gets Awkward along a Pro Sports Border

Oops. I crossed a Packers-Vikings line, or my comment did.

I stepped in it Monday night.

I was in the garden, gathering all the green tomatoes I could find on news that temps would drop below freezing.

When I brought the tomatoes in, Monday Night Football would be getting underway: Minnesota Vikings vs. New York Giants. Both teams struggling. Win-loss-wise, the worst MNF matchup in years, I'd heard. And there'd already been enough purple pain this season.

I thought to myself, "Not sure what's worse.. there's a hard freeze and the Vikings are on TV." And then I went and posted that as a status on the Hudson Patch Facebook page

The response was immediate and negative (though a few Packers fans expressed delight).

  • "really patch?"
  • "This seems a little unnecessary"
  • "Personally, I'm a GB fan, but we live in Minnesconsin and the fan base is pretty mixed up, so you can't really make a status like this when we live right across the river."

(Some of the stronger comments seem to have disappeared, maybe due to unfriending or deletion.)

Have you stepped in it before along the Vikings-Packers border? What are your tips for staying out of trouble? Leave a comment below.
