You Are Cordially Invited, Part Deux

We've got some great events coming in the next few months. Here's hoping for a great turnout.

Hi Everyone,

In part one of “You are cordially invited” I stated some good reasons to attend author events at our store. Support local authors, hear interesting stories, get signed/collectible books for you and to give as gifts.

Find out what's happening in Hudsonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

All of that is still true so here goes.....

Find out what's happening in Hudsonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

This Saturday stop down during the Tour of Homes at 3p.m. to meet Joe Brandmeier. Joe is a photographer and television producer based in the Twin Cities. He'll be signing copies of his book, Up North.

Up North is a beautiful collection of photos from his trip to Cancun. (Just checking to see if anyone is paying attention.) I'm looking forward to hearing about his trip to Alaska this summer. Some pictures I saw placed him in very close proximity to very big bears.

Joe is lucky to be married to Joan Steffend. I say lucky because Joan was such a lovely lady when I met her last month. They are car pooling to Hudson on Saturday because Joan will be signing copies of her new book Peace In Peace Out at Rue Marche , 3p.m.

Gary Porter will be in Saturday from 10-12.

Sunday, 11/18 from 2-5 local author Lisa Bodenheim will read from her book, Disturbing Complacency. Written from a progressive and eco-justice oriented Christianity, "Disturbing Complacency" contains daily readings for the Christian season preceding Christmas.

I don't usually plug t.v. Programs but did you know Ken Burns has a new documentary coming this Sunday and Monday. PBS. I mention it because we have a wonderful author event this Tuesday, 11/20 from 2-4.

Local author Norma Welty scheduled her event to coincide with the documentary. Hear Norma's first hand account of living through the Dust Bowl Days. It's going to be a very interesting afternoon.

We welcome all of you to escape big box craziness on Black Friday by coming down and picking out a good book. Did you know Saturday is Shop Small Day ? Sponsored by American Express, if you use your card you'll get a $25 rebate on your next AMEX bill.

I can't wait for our event this Saturday. Pam Powell, The Salad Girl will be in signing copies of her book, Salad Days. It's a great cookbook (maybe not cook?) filled with year round salad recipes. Pam will also bring bottles of her amazing, award winning salad dressings and........samples! She'll be dishing out samples of a wonderful apple salad. Her dressings make great marinades too.

Saturday December 1st is a great day to bring children to the store.

From 1-3 beloved author Nancy Carlson will sign copies of her latest book: T Is For Twin Cities. The illustrator , David Geister will join her.

*** please spread the word about Nancy's event. I was so happy last year when she was in town because some girls were really excited to meet her. She's their favorite author. Nancy is absolutely wonderful.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE

From 3-5 Let's Make Faces!

Jeannie Roberts will be in with her new book.

Let's Make Faces contains 30 colorful illustrations and a whimsical poem (recommended for the 2 - 8 year old child and the young-at-heart).
*LET'S MAKE FACES! provides a playful and rhythmic way for children to fall in love with language using rhyme, repetition and movement.

Sunday SunDAY SUNDAYYYYYYY

Local author Korinn Hawkins will be signing her book, Our Home , Our Earth. 12-2pm.

Our Home, The Earth
Chronicles a dialogue between a mother and her son after they spot a stray piece of garbage in the neighborhood park. Inspiring an awareness of how to care for the Earth, why it is important, and why children are so important to the Earth as they are able to lend a hand.

Calling all Packer Fans (after the game, of course) William Povletich will be here around 5ish.

His book will make a great gift. Green Bay Packers: Trials, Triumphs and Traditions

"Green Bay Packers: Trials, Triumphs and Tradition" tells the improbable story of professional football's most iconic team, and along the way gives a unique window into the rise of modern professional sports.

Friday evening, 12/7 at 6, Kari Dunn Buron will be in the store with her sidekick, Clare. Kari has written a wonderful book inspired by her work with special needs students. Clare is her yellow lab who works right there with her. Kari will sign copies of Adalyn's Clare. I don't know if Clare will.......

Saturday 12/8 will bring 2 more authors with excellent books to give as gifts.

Colleen Baldrica will be signing Tree Spirited Woman from 12-2. I highly recommend this wonderful book. In fact, I can't recommend it highly enough and will be sending copies to some close friends this year.

Hi Yah! (That's my lame attempt at a karate joke.) From 3-5 we'll have a Karate champion in the store.

Suzann Yue, Snort's Special Gift. It just so happens she wrote a beautiful book about the gifts her children learned from their beloved family pet, Snort. Wonderful illustrations and a wonderful story.

Snort's Special Gift

Stop your shopping, ditch your in laws and come to the store to relax on Sunday from 2-4. Deborah Padgett will read from her novel, The Sea In Winter. And she's bringing scones and clotted cream. I told her about the lame tray of cookies we usually put out so she's kicking it up a notch.

The Sea in Winter" tells the story of a vigorous and vital woman coming fully into her own in her mid-seventies at the crossroad between two centuries. It is a world that changes several times over in Victoria’s lifetime.
"The Sea in Winter" is a story of love, war, survival and hope.

Friday, 12/14 at 5 pm, Bernie Van Osdale, Vintage Outboard Motorboat Racing

Rev your engines for this outboard motorboat racing story covering the early years of the sport when water daredevils thrilled spectators across America and Canada.

Saturday 12/15 brings 2 very different events. Do NOT mix them up.

Sarah has close ties to Hudson. (her mother lives here, doesn't get much closer, huh?) Sarah spent many happy hours at the Phipps when she was growing up.

Sarah teaches in the Twin Cities.
