'LIFE-THREATENING COLD AIR HAS ARRIVED ... A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION'

It's the first time the National Weather Service-Twin Cities has used that language.

Coldest Air Since 1996. National Weather Service
Coldest Air Since 1996. National Weather Service
Hold onto your hats, Hudson. Here's what the National Weather Service is saying about our deep cold snap. (It's the first time the NWS-Twin Cities has warned of a "particularly dangerous situation.")

WIND CHILL WARNING

HISTORIC AND LIFE-THREATENING COLD AIR HAS ARRIVED...
THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION

The coldest airmass since 1966 continues to move southeast out of Canada and into Minnesota and Wisconsin. Wind chill values will range between 30 and 45 below [Sunday] and continue to fall through Monday morning. Air temperatures [Sunday night] will drop into the 20s and 30s below zero. Gusty west or northwest winds combined with these extremely cold temperatures will produce wind chills of 50 to 65 below zero late [Sunday night] and early Monday.

Wind chills colder than 50 below can cause exposed flesh to freeze in only 5 moinutes. A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for Central and Southern Minnesota and West Central Wisconsin through noon Tuesday.

The gusty winds will also bring areas of blowing snow to much of the area [Sunday and Sunday night]. Where gusts reach 35 to 45 mph over western and southern Minnesota visibilities may occasionally be reduced to less than a half mile in near blizzard conditions. This will bring an additional level of danger to anyone stranded.

A WIND CHILL WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST TUESDAY.

THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION!

WIND CHILL VALUES: 35 TO 65 BELOW ... WITH THE COLDEST READINGS TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING.

IMPACTS: EXPOSED FLESH WILL FREEZE IN 10 MINUTES WITH WIND CHILLS OF 35 BELOW AND IN 5 MINUTES WITH WIND CHILLS OF 50 BELOW OR COLDER.  ...

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

It really can not be that bad I mean perhaps in MN where the Governor cancelled school statewide Friday but we here in Hudson are still wondering. So I am sure this bad weather is really only in MN as we could not have individuals that make school closing decisions waiting until 10:00 PM Sunday night if it were really bad weather. I am sure this coldness will stop at the St. Croix River and not come into Hudson. The wise ones that make school closing decisions must view weather with so much more background than the Governor of MN. We are clearly wiser and stronger individuals - our children simply do not freeze like MN children. I am so pleased with the wisdom we enjoy here in Hudson.

Brings back the beautiful memories of getting in the truck to go to school and your dumb A"" brother left the truck third gear and you had to back out of the driveway. It was so cold that you could not let the clutch out for about 5 mins after starting as it would kill the engine. then it had to be backed in and left in first or you still could not move it. The seats were so hard that we put a concrete block on it for a cushion. Miss it not the woosy of today!!!

Dayton actually said to keep schools open, but in his typical, garble, people thought he said "close" the schools...

The MN democrats actually think Dayton's mumbling is an asset. The Republicans hear his mumbling and hear one thing, but it's not until the written copy comes out to the democrat leadership that people know what he actually meant.
