Chef's Week 1 Picks

Chef's take on the Vikings game Sunday and his picks in some other NFL Matchups

Here we go Week 1 and the Packers are winning right out of the gate, I don't think the Vikings will be starting the same way on Sunday. The Vikings travel to sunny San Diego for a 3:15 kickoff and are nine-point underdogs. I see a lot of OL issues for them on Sunday with Charlie Johnson continuing his poor preseason play and Phil Loadholt dealing with family issues means watch out McNabb & Co. Add in the fact the Chargers had the best defense in yards allowed and the lack of any talent at WR for the Vikings, Percy Harvin is only good in the slot. Means the San Diego safeties Bob Sanders and Eric Weddle will bury Adrian Peterson. And its secondary will be burnt like toast by Phillip Rivers. And the combo of Ryan Mathews and Mike "Tubby" Tolbert will prove to be effective in the running game. So take the San Diego Super Chargers -9, and stay classy San Diego.

The other game I really like is the Battle for Ohio, Browns vs. Bengals. Maybe not marquee, but this is a tale of two teams moving in opposite directions. The Browns under the direction of Mike Holmgren have a lot of pieces to the puzzle in place, and Colt McCoy, with some coach from Brett Favre has really looked good in the West Coast offense. The Bengals continue to regress, which is due more to poor ownership (Mike Brown), which must have Paul Brown turning over in his grave. A.J. Green is nice, but Carson Palmer is not going to report so good luck with rookie Andy Daulton. Give me the Browns -3.

And the last game I like is the Redskins and Giants. Washington is at home and getting three points. Yes, the Giants sound like they should be better but its top CBs are out and so is its starting MLB. Which should give Rex Grossman a chance to shine, along with Tim Hightower and Roy Helu at running back. Eli might think he is great, but just remember he is the third best QB in his family and the only reason he is not fourth is his other brother Cooper played WR. Take the 'Skins +3 and smile just like Daniel Snyder.
