The superintendent quelled a rumor that board member Lynn Robson stood to gain financially from the St. Croix Meadows dog track sale because of her husband's association with Greystone Commercial.
During the Superintendent's Report portion of the last Hudson School District Board of Education meeting held on May 8, Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten took some time to quell a rumor. The rumor circulating was that David and Lynn Robson—a member of the school board—stood to benefit from the St. Croix Meadows sale to the Hudson School District because David Robson is an associate at Greystone Commercial. Bowen-Eggebraaten presented a letter the district received from attorney Dennis J. Neeser representing the property sellers. The letter begins, "You have inquired on behalf of the Hudson School Board of any financial or beneficial relationship between the ownership group of the Track and Greystone Commercial Real Estate Company, or …

Conceptual site plans for the St. Croix Meadows dog track property include options for an 8-9 school, a three-year high school and a four-year high school. All three concepts include about 10 acres of land to be sold for commercial or city use.
At its May 8 meeting at River Crest Elementary School, the Hudson School District Board of Education approved three concept site plans to put a secondary school on the St. Croix Meadows dog track property. All of the site plans designate about 10 acres of the land on the northwest corner of the lot (near the intersection of Carmichael Road and Mayer Road) to be sold for commercial or city use. The plans show general areas where certain aspects of the school could be situated. Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten stressed that nothing has yet been decided and that a full community-engagement process will take place before anything is decided upon. The motion to approve the conceptual site plans was approved 5-1, with newly elected board …

This year's Prom theme was "A Night in Paris."
The Hudson High School East Gym was packed to the rafters on Saturday night as parents, siblings and friends came out to catch a glimpse of some gussied-up students in this year's Prom Grand March. This year's Prom theme was "A Night In Paris," and Prom dates were introduced to the capacity crowd before sauntering themselves around a walkway reminiscent of an evening traipse in the French capitol. Prom King Tucker Millett and Queen Meghan Eisenmann were crowned at the conclusion of the march, before all non-Promgoers were ushered away and the dance commenced. --- Your pics & clips: Did you get photos of the Promgoers? After almost two hours of discussion, the Hudson Plan Commission voted to give the Hudson School District a 30-day extension on presenting its plan to the city.
A Plan Commission recommendation to Hudson Common Council on whether to rezone the St. Croix Meadows Property didn't come Thursday during the commission's meeting as the Hudson School District asked the commission for 30 more days to prepare more information. "Tonight we're going to share some background information about how we got here, and we're also going to ask for a little more time," Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten told the commission on Thursday. "It was only nine days ago, so there are a number of steps we'd like to take to inform you and give you more information. We're going to provide background tonight, learn what your questions are and then move forward with making a proposal to you at the end of our presentation about …

The Hudson School District referendum to purchase the St. Croix Meadows property passed on Tuesday, but the City of Hudson can still kill the deal if it decides not to rezone the land for public use.
The Hudson School District's plan to purchase the St. Croix Meadows dog track property for a future secondary school site passed with voters district-wide in Tuesday's referendum, but it still needs at least four more yes votes to become reality. That final vote will take place among members of the City of Hudson's Common Council when it takes up the issue of whether to rezone the 131-acre property from commercial use to public use. But, there are a few steps, including a public hearing on Monday and a Plan Commission recommendation on Thursday, before the matter will come to the council for that vote. --- A site for a secondary school to solve district space issues The school district's space issues were well-documented throughout the …

School district calls the rumor "a common last-minute scare tactic used by referendum opponents" to defeat the measure on Tuesday.
The Hudson School District issued a statement Monday about what it calls a "false scare-tactic rumor" about mold at the St. Croix Meadows property. District voters will decide Tuesday whether the district will buy the property for a new secondary school. The district issued the following statement: The district has become aware of a scare-tactic rumor being sent out through Facebook and emails by individuals who are against the purchase of St. Croix Meadows. The untrue rumor suggests the building will contain mold when it opens. Any building remodel is designed to eliminate problems such as mold. That is the case with St. Croix Meadows. The inside of the St. Croix Meadows building will be extensively redone, dry wall and other surfaces …

Funny you should mention this, I met this week with a gentleman who has been in education all his life, likewise his wife, and he had a very good idea for resolving the space issues we face. The potential cost of his idea would be 25-30% of the cost of a new 2000-2500 student high school. I thought the idea was valid, but before I present it as an option I want to do the homework necessary to …   more ›
