Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill and challenger Scot O'Malley were on opposite sides of more than 60 votes while they were both Hudson Common Council aldermen from April 2007 to November 2010.
Voters in the City of Hudson will have two constrasting choices when they cast their ballot for mayor in the April 3 election. Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill and challenger Scot O'Malley found plenty to disagree on during the three-and-a-half years they sat next to each other as aldermen on the Hudson Common Council. They have been on different sides of more than 60 votes during that span. In April 2007 Burchill first assumed the role as District 6 alderman, and he was seated next to Scot O'Malley, a longtime District 5 alderman. Less than a month into that term, Burchill cast the lone dissenting vote in a 5-1 decision to deny a certificate of compliance request. In the final meeting in which the two served together as aldermen, a 4-2 vote …

Candidates for mayor in the city of Hudson will face off in the Hudson Patch Debate on March 28.
Hudson Patch will host a mayoral debate between incumbent Alan Burchill and challenger Scot O'Malley at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at the Phipps Center for the Arts. Hudson Patch Editor Micheal Foley will host the event and act as moderator. The entire community is invited to attend and participate in the event, which is possible because of a donation by local business owner Paul Rode. Hudson Patch will stream the event live, and The River Channel will tape the debate for later airing on Comcast cable's Channel 15. O'Malley is eager to discuss the issues on stage with the man he sat next to for four years at Hudson Common Council meetings. "I'm hoping to get voters in Hudson thinking about options for the future, and to discuss …

Alan Burchill and Scot O'Malley face off in the mayoral race. Dennis O'Connell and Kurt TeWinkel vie for council seat. Seven candidates are up for school board seats; February primary will narrow the field.
It's official. Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill will face a challenge from longtime District 5 Alderman Scot O'Malley. Both individuals filed their paperwork ahead of today's 5 p.m. deadline and will face off in the April 3 election. In the other contested city race, former Alderman Dennis O'Connell will face Kurt TeWinkel to see who will take over Lee Wyland's seat. Wyland no longer lives in District 4 because of recent redistricting. In the Town of Hudson, Supervisor Ken Kolbe is facing a challenge from Don Jordan. The Hudson School District Board of Education race drew so many candidates that a primary will be held on Feb. 21 to narrow the field. Three seats are up for grabs with all three incumbents running against four challengers. There …

Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill has released a statement saying that he plans to run in the April 3 election to defend his mayorship.
About three weeks ago, Scot O'Malley announced that he planned to run for mayor of the City of Hudson—and now the mayor himself has announced that he plans to run as well. Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill issued the following statement to Hudson Patch on Thursday morning: It's been one year that I've served as mayor of Hudson. It's been a privilege and an honor to serve the people of Hudson, and it has been an event-filled year. This budget has been the most challenging of my six years working on the council. With a reduction in funding of $250,000 the City Council and I came up with a fair budget. Tough decisions were made, and we didn't lay off any employees, and we won't have any major reductions in services to our citizens. Thank you, City …

O'Malley said since he narrowly lost his April 2011 alderman election he has had "a chance to get a 'big picture' overview of our city, it’s workings and its possible future."
Scot O'Malley sent the following statement to Hudson Patch in an email on Tuesday afternoon: Today (Tuesday) I filed the forms to become a candidate for mayor of Hudson in the 2012 spring election. Today’s action is the result of many conversations with fellow Hudsonites, coupled with ideas I have to improve our city and benefit its residents. The past months away from Council duties have been productive in that they have provided a chance to get a “big picture” overview of our city, it’s workings and its possible future. I look forward to the possibility that I might work on our city’s future with you. O'Malley was a longtime District 5 alderman on the Hudson Common Council before being narrowly defeated by John Hoggatt in the April …

The new top city official talks about what makes Hudson great, what challenges the city faces, local hot-button issues and more.
Former Sixth District Alderman Alan Burchill was appointed Hudson mayor in a special city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 29. Burchill will serve the remainder of former mayor Dean Knudson's term which ends in April 2012. Knudson was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly and takes office on Jan. 3. Hudson Patch sat down with Burchill almost two weeks into his tenure as mayor. Hudson Patch: Tell us a little about yourself. Where did you grow up? When did you move to Hudson? What brought you here? Alan Burchill: I grew up in Grand Forks, ND. I went to the University of North Dakota. I moved to the Twin Cities to work for First Bank System. I worked for them from 1976 until 1988. That's when I moved to Hudson to work for State Bank of …

Well Kyle maybe you should present your ideas to the current council. Or ask them why they assure that their employees have proper uniforms. Or maybe you need to run for office yourself. Or contact your representative.   more ›
