Hudson High School Remembers Alumna FBI Agent With Scholarship

Hi, My name is Hannah Ross and I would like to take a moment to tell you a little bit about the life of a former Hudson High School graduate, Robin Ahrens. Robin graduated from Hudson in 1970. She was an active member of the community who participated in her church choir and was a terrific female athlete. Robin had a way of lighting up a room with her fun and energetic personality. After a few years of teaching, Robin Ahrens became one of the first female FBI agents to be in the front line of action.

On Oct. 5, 1985, special agent Ahrens was killed in action. She is now immortalized in the FBI’s hall of honor, has an FBI building in Arizona named after her. She is also on the HHS Wall of fame. Today marks the 27th anniversary of her death and the 40th anniversary of women in the FBI.

To honor Robin’s life and dedication there will be a $1550.00 scholarship for a female senior who is looking into the criminal just field, made possible by her fellow FBI agents around the country. As a sign of respect for Robin and the other women who have died or are who are currently in the criminal justice field, I ask that you take a moment of silence to honor their service.

On October 5, 1985, Special Agent Robin L. Ahrens, who was assigned to the Phoenix FBI Office, was fatally wounded while participating with other agents in the apprehension of fugitive Kenneth Don Barrett. The fugitive was sought for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for armed robbery. Special Agent Ahrens was fatally shot by other agents at the arrest scene who mistook her for an armed associate of the fugitive. Special Agent Ahrens was the first female special agent to be killed in the line of duty. Special Agent Ahrens was born in May 1952 in St. Paul, Minnesota. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Utah State University in 1974, and a Media Specialist Degree from James Madison University in Virginia, she entered on duty as a special agent in 1984.
