North Hudson Police: Never Leave Your Pet in a Parked Car on Hot Days

If you are concerned about the welfare of an animal in a vehicle, police ask that people call the animal control warden or the police department via the non-emergency dispatch number of (715) 386-4701 or if it is an emergency, call 911.

The North Hudson Police Department is reminding residents never to leave pets in a parked car on hot days.

“REMINDER - PETS: NEVER leave your pets in a parked car,” the North Hudson Police Department’s Facebook status reads. “The Humane Society of the United States website describes how the temperature inside a car can soar quickly, even with the windows open, during hot weather, which will cause your pet to suffer irreversible organ damage or death.”

In Wisconsin, it is illegal under WI ss.951.02 to treat any animal, whether belonging to the person or another, in a cruel manner.

“A case can certainly be made that a pet in a car with internal temperatures reaching 120 degrees Fahrenheit would constitute treating an animal in a cruel manner,” the status update goes on to read.
