Hudson Liquor Store Doesn't Expect Much Extra MillerCoors Business From Minnesotans

The Minnesota government shutdown may force MillerCoors products to be removed from shelves in Minnesota. Casanova Liquor store owner thinks people would rather switch brands than drive to Hudson.

Additional beer sales in Hudson to Minnesota customers could become an all-week affair instead of just a Sunday tradition.

MillerCoors and almost 40 of their products could be pulled from store coolers and taps because the company did not get their brand registration updated before the shutdown.

According to a report in the Star Tribune, MillerCoors, the company that brews and distributes products like Coors Light, Miller Lite and Blue Moon, failed to renew their brand label registration with the state before the shutdown began. That could mean businesses will have to pull the product from their shelves.

A MillerCoors spokesperson told the Star Tribune that the company is fighting the decision.

But here in Hudson, Casanova Liquor store owner Jana Gaffer is taking a wait-and-see approach to the news.

"I don't think it's actually going to happen," Gaffer said. "They're such a big company and to take all the product off the shelves is just a huge undertaking."

If it does happen, Gaffer still doesn't imagine much business coming across the border just for MillerCoors products.

"I think people would just switch," Gaffer said. "On Sundays, they come over here anyway, and they might stock up then. There's so many other products out there that I just can't believe that people would drive all the way on a Tuesday for two hours just to get Coors Light."
